TASKA Champion Jo Jackson was recently highlighted on In Profile, a platform that shares stories and tales of the people from Rotorua, New Zealand, where Jo has lived since 2006.
Jo describes herself as “just me, someone a bit quirky," but her achievements tell a far more extraordinary story. Born without her lower right arm, Jo has never let this hold her back. Besides being a TASKA Champion, Jo is a Paralympic Gold Medallist (Atlanta) and a three-time World Champion Gold Medallist in equestrian events for differently abled riders, and very quick to downplay her disability, stating, “I forget I don’t have an arm, I’m just me.”
Her strength and perseverance have earned her multiple accolades, including being named New Zealand's Dressage Judge of the Year in 2021. Nowadays, Jo's passion is inspiring young people through her role at Parafed Bay of Plenty. She works with children with disabilities, encouraging them to participate in activities like rock climbing, boccia, and surfing. And her love for horses, which began at the age of four, remains a lifelong passion.
Jo sums up her life philosophy with a sentiment passed down from her mother: “There’s no such word as ‘can’t.’” Whether she's cracking a perfect egg with Edward (her TASKA CX) or helping children discover their own capabilities, Jo’s zest for life shines through.
Rotorua Trust, a community funder, supports In Profile, which highlights the contributions of locals, shares their inspirational tales, and preserves their stories. Read the full highlight of Jo Jackson’s story on In Profile by clicking here.
