Meet Emily, an unstoppable, energetic young mum and TASKA Champion.

Long story short: Emily loves how her TASKA CX™ looks. She told us, “I always used to wear a cosmetic, passive arm for things like family photos and my wedding. In 2024, my brother got married, and I was a bridesmaid. I wore my TASKA.”

Emily’s journey with myoelectrics has been lifelong. She is a TASKA Champion now, but there was a time when she thought she’d leave myoelectric hands behind for good.

Born with a limb difference, Emily got her first myoelectric hand when she was two years of age. Then, in her early teens, she decided she had had enough. “At 12, I sized into an adult hand, which was HUGE on a 12-year-old girl!” So, Emily took a 15-year vacation from myolelectrics and wore a passive hand for cosmetic purposes, balance, and symmetry.

Then, when Emily became a young mum, she discovered that myoelectric hands had come a long way, and articulated fingers were now available. However, she still found them too big, unwieldy and hard to control.

“I was in occupational therapy and complained to my therapist that my hand wasn’t waterproof.” Emily couldn’t wash dishes with it, and cooking felt hard because keeping her hand clean enough to handle food was challenging. That was when her occupational therapist told her about TASKA.

Size, however, did matter. At that time, the TASKA was not yet available in small. Emily is not one to take no for an answer, so she contacted us via social media, and we began talking with her about user research for a small hand. She accepted, opening the door for her to become a trialist for the small CX hand.

For thirty years, she had found her own way of managing everyday tasks. These necessary life hacks were starting to cause issues. “I’m in my 30’s, and overuse problems are catching up. TASKA helps even out the workload for my body. I literally even sit differently with it on. It reduces my overuse pain and hopefully is preventing my problems from getting worse.”

Emily is raising two small children, so her life is active. Luckily, she has finally found a hand to keep up with her energetic daily routine. Two of her favourite TASKA features are durability and waterproofness. “My two little boys love pushing buttons on my robot hand and pulling on the fingers. With my TASKA, I know they aren’t going to break it.” The boys have foam swords that they love to play with, and for the first time, Emily’s TASKA CX allows her to sword fight with a sword in each hand!

The waterproof feature has been a game-changer for Emily. “Feeling capable in the kitchen makes such a big difference,” Emily says. As a mum, she feels like she spends all day cooking or cleaning up after cooking. Her TASKA CX makes those tasks easier without the mess and fuss of wearing a glove.

Emily told us that she thinks the MyTASKA app is intuitive. “From little features like right-hand mode, which to me, shows that the engineers really considered their end users, to how easily customisable the grip cycle and grip triggers are, it’s just a no-brainer.” Speaking of grips, her favourite is the key. She uses it to wash dishes, zip up her kids’ jackets, and hold a book open to read to them.

But what she loves the most about her TASKA is how it makes her feel about herself. “Everyone always thinks it’s cool looking! I can’t walk into my kids’ daycare without at least one kid asking about my robot hand.” Several people have randomly stopped her at places like the mall and grocery store just to tell her that her hand looks cool. She had never gotten that reaction with any previous prosthesis.

“Finally, the size matches my hand perfectly, and the design is feminine. It just looks right on me, in a way that past prostheses haven’t. I feel great in it.”
